The severe water shortage in East Nusa Tenggara threatens the livelihood of thousands with many forced to use water from unhygienic sources
At many villages people have to walk up to many kilometers to fetch water.
Access to safe water reduces the scourge of water borne diseases and eases the burden on people in rural communities.
The water shortage also adversely affected crops.
Lack of clean drinking water, sanitation, and health facilities has caused that child malnutrition (32%) and child mortality (71 per 1000) are higher than in most of the rest of Indonesia.
In June last year (2009), the East Nusa Tenggara health agency reported that more than 12,600 children under 5 years old were malnourished and at least 25 youngsters had died from malnutrition.
The mission of this “Give Water To The People of East Nusa Tenggara (GWTP-East Nusa Tenggara)” program is:
To help people in East Nusa Tenggara improve their quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable water resources.
This program “Give Water To The People of East Nusa Tenggara”, is an initiative of Palin Genesia Foundation.
